What follows is a guideline for the installation of
the Plustek-driver for Plustek parallel port scanners
under linux.
This work is due to the initial work ('' Installationsanleitung'')
by Karsten Giesow (in German), which I translated and extended a little.
Questions concerning the compilation of SANE are not discussed here,
partly because the SANE doesn't have to
be recompiled any more by the end-user when using modern
versions of SANE and the Plustek-driver. Therefore
we assume in the following, that the SANE can be successfully
installed with some installation tool of your distribution,
like the yast in SuSE for example.
In case of trouble with the installation of SANE, please
look into the HOWTO and other documentation of the SANE project.
We will only refer to questions of the Plustek-driver
here.
We tried to write some piece of documentation that is
perfectly newbie-compliant. Therefore many examples with
many details are included into the text. The experienced
user will of course find this highly redundant and skip
much of it. Yet I think that it is sensible to write
this way, just to ensure perfect service for the newbie
(like me) and because I also know from the mailing list
that there is at least some demand for it.
